TRICARE warns of phishing scam
TRICARE beneficiaries should remember that TRICARE will never call you and ask for personal information, and if you receive this type of call it is fraud. According to a recent report by the Fort Leavenworth Lamp, callers from Big Bear, Calif. ((909) 547-9868) have recently been calling TRICARE beneficiaries at various locations and identifying themselves as representing TRICARE. The fraudulent callers state that they can enroll the beneficiary in a free pharmacy refill program as long as the beneficiary could answer some questions and provide some personal identifying information. The calling party will hang up if the beneficiary does not provide the information.
If you receive this particular call, or any a call like this, TRICARE reminds you NOT to give out any of your personal identifiable information, such as birth date, social security number or banking information. TRICARE never asks beneficiaries for this information when calling for an official Department of Defense survey.
In general, beneficiaries should remain vigilant in protecting their personal information and their personal health information and never give out personal information, like your social security number, to anyone over the phone.
If you receive a fraudulent call of any kind, contact the Defense Health Agency (DHA) Program Integrity Office directly at 1-877-TRICARE (1-877-874-2273) . You can also get more information by visiting the Report Fraud or Abuse page on the TRICARE website.
